W Seoul's Japanese restaurant Namu recently started Namumori@Namu, a Friday-night buffet featuring sashimi, sushi, grilled seafood and meat, teppanyaki, and a variety of other Japanese dishes. It's priced at 130,000 won per person which is a pretty hefty price tag but we took advantage of our W Replenish membership which gives us a 50% discount at all W Seoul restaurants.
Made our reservation a week in advance to get the best view. We were seated in the Jirisan room.
What to drink... not very knowledgeable on sake so took their recommendation.
Mamehomare Junmai Ginjo
Let's check out the spread
The sashimi and sushi options were pretty limited. Didn't even bother with the sushi section.
Various appetizer dishes.
1st plate
This Tofu with Miso Paste was really good.
Cheers.
The best part of the buffet was the seafood and meat skewers that were freshly grilled upon request.
I was pretty surprised and impressed by the variety of seafood and meat they offered for the grill. Didn't get a chance to take a picture of every offering but you get the idea.
Love shrimp heads. If you've never tried sucking out all the meat and juice from that part of the shrimp, you are missing out.
Bacon Wrapped Asparagus. So good.
Chicken Wings.
So the system they use for made-to-order dishes (grilled food, tempura, teppanyaki, etc) is to select the things you want on a plate, stick this clip which has your table number to the plate and give it to the chef. Then they'll serve the dish to your table. The problem is that you won't get this clip back until the dish comes out which at one point took about 30 minutes. So there was no other way to order another dish without this clip. I kindly explained to the server that it was taking way too long so they provided us with another clip.
The beef was a bit disappointing. Too well done.
Chicken and Green Onion Skewer
Made-to-order Tempura
We love mayo.
Made-to-order Teppanyaki
This was amazing. Noodles were perfectly cooked - al dente.
Spicy Udon
The great thing about this buffet is that the majority of the food is made-to-order so everything was fresh and as if you were ordering the dish off a menu. Another great thing is that you select the ingredients so you can customize the dish to you liking. Don't think I can argue about the price based on everything they offer but we wouldn't have dined here if it weren't for the membership discount. I think W Kitchen's Sunday Bubbly Brunch at 150,000 won is a much better deal since it includes unlimited Veuve Clicquot champagne. We plan on trying that out next month.
