홍콩 첨자기 완탄면 (Hong Kong Tsim Chai Kee Noodle Soup)

One of my guiding principles for finding good restaurants in a foreign country is to avoid places that are packed with tourists.  Local favorites also tend to be much cheaper than the famous touristy restaurants so that's another plus.

Wellington Street in Central Hong Kong is packed with both touristy restaurants as well as local favorites.  My hotel was located near Wellington so I spent most of my time eating on this street and believe me - I never ran out of choices on this block.

Located on Wellington are Tsim Chai Kee and Mak's Noodles.  Tsim Chai Kee and Mak's Noodles are your Burger King and McDonald's when it comes to wonton noodles in Hong Kong.  The rivalry doesn't get any uglier as the two restaurants are located on the same street, no more than 50 meters apart.  I saw reviews on both restaurants and decided to check out Tsim Chai Kee.

The menu essentially boils down to three things:  Noodles, Vegetable with Oyster Sauce, and Drinks.  You just have to select your topping for the noodle.  I, of course, went with the Three Toppings Noodles which include Shrimp Wontons, Fish Balls, and Sliced Beef.

This took 30 seconds to come out.  Maybe less.

You know how we Koreans roll - we always need a little kick.

The broth was really salty...you could argue that it's packed with flavor.

They took my order so quickly that I forgot about the noodles.  You can actually choose between three types of noodles:  Yellow, White Flat Noodles, and Vermicelli.  The yellow noodles are what's shown in the picture and what's served if you don't request the other two.

32 HK Dollars.  That's about $4.  The best $4 ever spent on a meal.
