Following last week's post on Waraku, I wanted to continue my search for the best robatayaki/kushiyaki restaurant in Seoul. Another famous kushiyaki restaurant that food bloggers rave about is a placed called "Kushimura" in Hongdae (well, it used to be in Hongdae... we'll get to that).
Ok, it's not that I don't get out much or anything but this is the first time I've seen this automatic parking lot. It's the most efficient and cost-friendly parking lot I've encountered in Seoul.
Each parking space has an assigned number.
Once you back into your spot, the sensor will detect that a vehicle has arrived and raise this road block. This block goes down once you return and pay the parking fee. It was 1,000 won for every 20 minutes. That's dirt cheap in Seoul!
Ok... so I pride myself on street navigation but I totally screwed up today. Basically, Kushimura used to be located in Hongdae but they recently moved to a new location in Sangsoo-dong which is not very far from Hongdae. I blame Googlemap for not updating the new location. I did walk past Julio, a famous Mexican restaurant so at least I know where Julio's is...
After walking around for 15-20 minutes, I asked a local shop owner if they had heard of Kushimura and she said it used to be there (as she pointed) but she thinks it closed down (Well, now we know that it moved). Well, we didn't find Kushimura but we coincidentally ran into another kushiyaki place called Kko Jang.
Realized that this is a restaurant chain owned by 강호동 (Kang Ho Dong). You may have heard of his other restaurant 678 (육칠팔). This is supposedly his 7th restaurant chain?! The richer get richer...
Set Menus
Skewers
We ordered the 7-piece Assorted Skewers
Welcome dishes.
크아~
Quail Eggs Wrapped in Bacon
Zucchini Wrapped in Bacon
명란가슴 (Chicken Breast with Mayo & Pollack Roe)
Jalapenos Wrapped in Bacon
Cherry Tomato Wrapped in Bacon
All the ingredients were very fresh as you can tell from the pictures.
Best dish of the night. Fried Shrimp Crackers & Fried Squid.
They call it Fried Shrimp Crackers but it's basically Deep Fried Dried Baby Shrimps. We all love 새우깡 (Shrimp Crackers/Chips) right? This is 10 times tastier. Awesome beer food.
Fried Calamari
We love our mayo.
Decided to get some more skewers. Mushroom Wrapped in Bacon on top, Chicken Thigh with Green Onion on the bottom.
One of my favorites - Chicken Skin
Scallop... Why did I order this...
Chicken Heart
I honestly doubted this restaurant when I realized it was a chain ran by a celebrity but I was pleasantly surprised. The skewers were on par with Muntaro and Waraku but what I did enjoy were the unique dishes like the Deep Fried Baby Shrimps.
Next stop is Kushimura!
