Pho. Such a simple dish, yet so difficult to master. ESPECIALLY in Korea. I've simply given up on Pho in Korea because the broth pretty much taste like cheap beef broth - like those sold in cans or paper boxes. I don't understand how Koreans can make such awesome sullungtang (ox bone soup) yet no one is able to serve a decent bowl of Pho. For this reason, pho is one of the first things I eat whenever I go back to the states.
Pho Hoa. This is such a common pho restaurant name that there is probably over a thousand Pho Hoa's located throughout America. As a matter of fact, Pho Hoa is a franchise restaurant in Korea lol. Well, this Pho Hoa is located in San Diego in a Vietnamese enclave centered around El Cajon Boulevard. And the people of San Diego have spoken - this is THE best place for pho in San Diego.
Laughing Cow?
Alright. Here's the menu. You know a restaurant is dedicated to its food when they serve only one thing. And that's all they serve here - Pho. No rice plates. No egg rolls. Just pho. Pick your meat and size of your bowl.
I went with #1 - Special Combo
The bowl came out in about 2 minutes.
Awesome.
I love my cilantro.
I rarely finish the broth elsewhere because it just gets too filling but I had to at Pho Hoa. The broth was so good that I didn't even bother adding any Hoisin or Sriracha sauce into the broth. Now I must go into a pho withdrawal for the next several months...
